Instagram is going to introduce ‘Amber Alerts’ feature about missing children
California: Instagram will soon launch amber alerts about missing or abducted children.
According to a foreign news agency, this feature has been created by Instagram in collaboration with several organizations, including the National Crime Agency.
Meta subsidiary Instagram said the alerts would include details of missing children such as photographs, location of abductions and other available information.
The company said the effort could be important in finding children because the platform’s visual nature allows its users to disseminate the information more quickly.
The photo-sharing application said the feature would launch on Thursday and would be fully available in 25 countries in the next few weeks.
A similar system was launched on Facebook in 2015 and now this feature is coming to Instagram, users will be able to share alerts from one platform to another.
Emily Vetcher, director of trust and safety at Meta, said: “We know that when more people go in search of a missing patch, they are more likely to be found, especially in the early days.
“Amber alerts can be an important way to support our societies in which we can keep children safe,” he added.
