There is a huge amount of sugar in the sea!
Berlin: The ocean is full of brackish water, but now scientists have discovered thousands of corners hidden on its floor, beneath which there is a large amount of different types of sugars.
These places are the largest collections of seaweed (sea grass) which are also the only flowering places in the marine environment. On the one hand there is sugar under the canopy and on the other hand they absorb twice the amount of carbon dioxide as compared to land forests. That’s why they’re so eco-friendly.
Scientists at the Max Planck Institute in Germany have published a study saying that seaweed releases large amounts of sugar from its roots which accumulates in the surrounding soil. This whole place is called the Rhizosphere. That is 80 times more sugar than the whole sea is found here.
Coca-Cola is estimated to have 32 billion tons of sugar in the oceans, equivalent to 6 million to 13 million tons of sugar. Seagrass makes various thanks to the process of photosynthesis (photosynthesis) which is very important for them. However, she makes more sugar than she needs and continues to enter the rhizosphere in the form of sucrose.
But the question is why this sugar is accumulating and why millions of microorganisms in the aquatic environment are not using it. Scientists have also considered this. It turned out that phenolic compounds are released along with sugar which other marine organisms cannot digest and thus they do not use sucrose type sugar.
Scientists have stressed that it is important to save large collections of seaweed because they contain large amounts of carbon dioxide. If damaged, the oceans would release 154 million tons of carbon.
